Vietnamese soda sua hot ga is essentially club soda with condensed milk and egg yolk.

It’s a refreshing drink native to Vietnam and tastes similar to egg nog… if egg nog had soda!

Egg yolk soda is easy to prepare, but making a low carb version requires sugar-free condensed milk, which can be difficult to find.

Luckily, there are a few ways to overcome this scarcity (it’s truly a shame!).

You can also buy keto-friendly condensed milk here ,but I highly suggest you make it yourself because it’ll taste a heck of a lot better!

It’s also important that you use club soda, as sodium bicarbonate and sodium citrate are what gives the drink it’s distinctive taste.

Get Your Egg On

Eggs are a great source of protein but since we’re only going to be consuming the yolks, egg yolk soda, in particular, is great for increasing your fat intake and achieving metabolic ketosis.

Egg yolks are a fat powerhouse at 4.5g total fat per yolk, but that doesn’t mean you should knock back 6 of these beverages.

One of the common pitfalls that keto dieters make is consuming TOO MUCH fat, since it cause your body to burn off dietary fat instead of body fat.

Eating raw eggs can make you sick, but it’s highly unlikely you will come across a bad egg since technological advances have improved sanitary conditions.

However, to be on the safe side, it’s best to use pasteurized eggs in raw egg recipes like this one.

As a personal anecdote, I’ve been consuming soda sua hot ga for a while and have yet to get sick.

It’s important to note Salmonella is considerably worse for young children and older people so not everyone is suited to take this gamble.

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp sugar-free condensed milk
  • 12 fl oz club soda

Instructions

  • Add condensed milk to drinking glass along with the egg yolk.
  • Add club soda and quickly stir until the ingredients are thoroughly mixed.
  • Add ice and adjust ratio of condensed milk and club soda to match your preference.

Notes

Optional toppings: cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and mint leaves.
For a boozy egg soda, add an oz of your favorite vodka.
